First Line

Therapy

Co-amoxiclav 1.2g IV 8 hourly until Oral & Maxillofacial surgery review

Notes:

Mild Penicillin Allergy (e.g. rash)

Therapy

Ceftriaxone 2g IV 24 hourly AND Metronidazole 400mg PO 8 hourly until Oral & Maxillofacial surgery review

Notes:

Severe Penicillin Allergy (i.e. anaphylaxis, angioedema, urticaria, respiratory distress)

Therapy

Clindamycin 300mg 6 hourly until Oral & Maxillofacial surgery review

Notes:

If oral/enteral route not possible - Clindamycin 600mg IV 6 hourly until Oral & Maxillofacial surgery review.
