Antimicrobial prescribing: NHS Forth Valley
Collect sputum and blood cultures
Samples needed: NPA for bacteria and viral pathogens (will test for mycoplasma), Secretions from tracheal aspirates, Viral throat swab if severe or treatment failure
Oral therapy should be considered standard practice except in severe pneumonia or in patients unable to take oral therapy
