Antimicrobial prescribing: NHS Forth Valley
NHS Forth Valley

The following procedure DO NOT routinely require antibiotic prophylaxis:

  • Diagnostic Laparoscopy +/- hydrotubation (without hydrosalpinx/tubal blockage)
  • Hysteroscopy
  • Endometrial Ablation
  • Laparoscopic Sterilisation
  • Cystoscopy

Hydrosalpinx or tubal blockage found on diagnostic laparoscopy with hydrotubation

Hysterectomy (abdominal/laparoscopic/vaginal)

Laparotomy

Medical Termination of Pregnancy

Operative Laparoscopy e.g. ectopic salpingectomy, adnexal surgery

Pelvic Floor Repair and other major Urogynaecology surgery without mesh insertion

Perineal Surgery e.g. marsupilisation, formal incision and drainage

Surgical Termination of Pregnancy or Surgical Evacuation of Uterus

Urogynaecology Surgery with Mesh Insertion or Autologious Fascial Sling
