Services

  • Patients with a confirmed colorectal / urology / Gynae / GI diagnosis requiring stoma formation should be referred to the Stoma Nurse Specialist service. Any patients with stoma problems requiring specialist input. Our stoma nurse is Linda Craig and Rebecca Bell
  • Referrals should be made via letter or email to: linda.craig@birders.scot.nhs.uk or rebecca.bell6@borders.scot.nhs.uk
  • The Stoma Nurses are available to discuss referral or general management issues during office hours (8.00am – 4.00pm). An answer-phone is available at times of clinics and calls will be returned within 24 working hours.

  • Nurse-led Clinics: Wednesday / Friday morning – appointment required. If required can be seen in surgical Hot Clinic – Mon- Fri

Telephone yearly reviews

  • “Near Me” Telephone consultations are available to patients (requirements = google chrome on desktop/laptop or Android tablet/phone, Safari on Apple, camera, speakers, microphone, and arranged via phone number above.)

Who to refer, who not to refer, how to refer

Who to refer:

  • Patients with a confirmed colorectal / urology /gynae / GI diagnosis requiring stoma formation should be referred to the Stoma Nurse Specialist service
  • Patients should be referred at time of diagnosis and at any time in their journey.
  • Any stoma patient who is encountering problems with their stoma.

Who not to refer:

  • Those who will not require stoma formation

How to refer:

  • Via SCI Gateway using general referral/email/
  • Information should include:
    • When diagnosis made
    • Who made diagnosis
    • Past medical history
  • Current medications
