The service provides support to: 

  • Young carers 
  • Children and young people (all ages) impacted by a family members alcohol and/or drug use 
  • Concerned Others 
  • Parents with concerns about their drug/alcohol use including expectant parents 

The service is providing contact to children, young people and parents via home visits, school visits, cafes and community centres or at an agreed meeting place in the community. All other consultations are by agreement and include contact by telephone, text, email and video calls via Microsoft Teams. 

 

 

Who to refer, who not to refer, how to refer

Who to refer: 

  • Young carers 
  • Children and young people (all ages) impacted by a family members alcohol and/or drug use 
  • Concerned Others 
  • Parents with concerns about their drug/alcohol use including expectant parents 

 

Who not to refer: 

  • People requiring emergency homecare of support should be referred to their local Social Work Office.  Outside office hours, contact the Social Work Dept Emergency Duty Team 01896 752111 
  • Individuals living outwith the Scottish Borders.

Young carers can sign up for the Young Carers Package via the Young Scot website.  

Young carers can visit Social Security Scotland for information on the Carers Allowance and the Young Carers Grant and other benefits and welfare payments.
