This consultant-led clinic is for the assessment of older, frailer adults with suspected Parkinson’s disease.   It is run by Dr McLaren, Dr Lonnen and Dr Stewart.

Patients diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease are provided with long term follow up at a minimum of12-months and usually at 6 monthly intervals. Those diagnosed with other conditions are usually discharged from follow-up.

Confirmed cases of PD managed jointly with Jill Anderson, Parkinson’s Disease Nurse Specialist.

Who to refer, who not to refer, how to refer

Who to Refer:

  • Patients thought to have possible Parkinson’s Disease aged >69yrs old

Who not to Refer:

  • Patients under the age of 70

By copy of ED/Inpatient discharge letter for patients who have been seen in secondary care

Primary care management

Please do not commence any treatment prior to assessment in clinic

Please note that patients will receive an appointment letter for the ‘Parkinson’s Clinic’ so should be aware of the potential diagnosis at the time of referral.

Please review and discontinue medications that may be causing symptoms, such as metoclopramide, phenothiazines etc…
