Early pregnancy assessment clinic

There are specific groups of women for whom referral as soon as pregnancy is confirmed is recommended. 

Patients requiring early referral include:

• Pre existing diabetes
• Recurrent miscarriage (3 or more miscarriages)
• Previous ectopic pregnancy
• Epilepsy
• Thyroid dysfunction

Referral can be made through SCI gateway or by phoning Women’s Outpatients during clinic hours.  Women's Outpatients telephone number - 01387 241200.

If the reason for referral is bleeding and/or abdominal pain or any symptoms suggestive of ectopic pregnancy (typical or atypical), referral should be as follows:

• During clinic hours: telephone Early Pregnancy Assessment Service on 01387 241266 for initial assessment and appointments as appropriate.
• Out with clinic hours: for emergencies, telephone the on call middle grade gynaecologist via the switchboard 01387 246246 for advice.
