Patient's feedback and advice

Warning

Please use the links below if you would like to leave your own feedback. We’d like to hear your experiences and use them to further develop our service in the future.

We asked some previous patients for feedback and advice for future patients about to go through transplant. This is what they said...

How was your care in Ward 4B?

“My care could not have been better, from the highly skilled doctors, nurses, catering, domestic, admin and MDT onwards. The closest bonds were formed with the nurses who are so knowledgeable and kind and nothing is a problem to them. It can be intimidating arriving in ward 4B but if you chat to the staff that will soon disappear. The care to my wife was also first class from this exceptional team. They spent a lot of time reassuring her.”

“The care given by all the medical staff in ward 4B was magnificent! This is a very scary, worrying time for patients. If you have a pain during the night, you ring your buzzer and someone is there to help and reassure you. They are with you every step of the way. They react very quickly to your needs and that is very reassuring. I hope this helps anyone about to go through this process. In effect, you have a dedicated team of medics ensuring you come through the process with all the help possible".

“Round the clock care – excellent. Put at ease from day 1. Staff are caring, professional and work very hard every day, listen to me and understand, amending my treatment as necessary. Thank you all xx”

“The staff in 4B (and other encountered in the NHS) have all been very caring, helpful and professional. Support has been great!”

Do you have advice or support that you would to share with someone about to go through this process?

“This is probably the hardest journey you will make! What you have to remember is it’s a finite time you will be here. There is light at the end of the tunnel! Every day might bring its own challenges but the light does get brighter. Put yourself in the hands of this brilliant team and do as you are told. I am an ex postman and if I can do it we all can”

“I came in with a plan e.g. books to read. I quickly realised that I didn’t have a lot of energy, so I would say be kind to yourself! Rest and sleep when you need it. Take advantage of your medical team – ask questions. Don’t worry in silence. Do everything you’re asked to do e.g. mouthwashes etc. Your medical team know the drill and what’s best for you.”

“Positive mind set helps. Work with the staff, they listen and care. There will be challenges but there are better days coming. Always try to drink plenty of fluids. Eat your meals for nutrition. Try to maintain a routine - exercise, shower etc. but listen to your body”

“Maintaining a level of activity if you can is very beneficial. Condition can be lost in the ward much more quickly that regaining.”
