Admission day
On your admission day you’ll be welcomed to our ward and shown to your room. We’ll do a covid test on arrival and we ask that you continue to wear your mask until this result is back. Providing the result is negative you can then remove your mask.
This day will be used to get you organised for starting treatment. If you don’t have central line already you will attend a pre-arranged appointment for insertion. Your nurse will go through your admission documentation with you and explain your protocol which details your treatment day-by-day. Your nurse will also explain your mouth and skin care advice. Bloods will be obtained and any existing lines will be cleansed and redressed. You may also attend for a routine admission chest X-ray as part of the admission process. A routine ECG will be taken to obtain a baseline tracing of your heart for our records.
On admission, you will meet a member of the medical team who will complete your clerking, and a member of the pharmacy team, such as a pharmacist or pharmacy technician, who will review and discuss your medications with you.
For those having allogeneic or CAR-T, patients will already have been seen by the psychology team and a plan agreed if they need support during their admission. If you have not met one of our psychologists and would like support, please ask your nurse to make a referral. The BMT psychology team can also support those having autologous transplants during their admission.
