Ward routine
A typical day during your stay will be roughly like this:
05:00 - 07:00 Morning bloods, intravenous (IV) meds and observations
07:15 - 08:00 Nursing handover
08:00 - 08:30 Breakfast
08:00 - 10:00 Nurse Review and morning medications
10:00 - 13:00 See on the ward round by a doctor or ANP
12:00 Lunch
12:00 - 14:00 Lunchtime medications, IVs and observations
17:00 Dinner
17:00 - 18:30 Dinner medications, IVs and observations
19:15 - 20:00 Nursing handover
21:00 - 22:00 Night time medications, IVs and observations
01:00 - 02:00 Observation when required
Chemotherapy with be delivered throughout the shift depending on your regime. The IVs you require will vary throughout your admission, so you might find that you’re attached to IV lines for longer on some days than others. We understand that this can be frustrating and while we do our best to get you disconnected as quickly as we can we have to prioritise giving everyone their medication first.
There are other dedicated professionals that you will see throughout the course of your day depending on your needs, such as Occupational Therapists (OT), Physiotherapists, Dietitians and Psychologists. They all have their own sections from the main page where more information can be found about each service.
Meals are ordered in advance by catering staff. You are able to order from a wide range of menus.
