Welcome to WestMARC

Warning

WestMARC is a regional service, delivering services to six NHS health boards: Highland (Argyll), Ayrshire and Arran, Dumfries and Galloway, Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Forth Valley and Lanarkshire.

WestMARC provides wheelchair and seating services to a population of approximately 2.6 million and has over 50,000 active users covering an age range from 2 years and upwards. WestMARC staff are responsible for assessing the mobility, postural and pressure management needs of both existing users and new patients referred to the service.

The Wheelchair and Seating Service receives over 8000 new referrals and a similar number or review requests per year resulting in issue of over 10000 manual and powered wheelchairs.

WestMARC also provides Prosthetic services to approximately 3000 amputees and receives on average, 300 new amputees referrals per year.

WestMARC provides an Environmental Control Service in Greater Glasgow and Clyde helping service users to control their domestic environment.

The Gait Services provides multidisciplinary team planning to the rehabilitation of patients with complex gait problems.

Patients referred to WestMARC typically have a permanent disability and require ongoing care and support from WestMARC for the rest of their lives. The management and delivery of the support services to ensure maintenance and repair of all the equipment and ongoing clinical review constitutes a significant proportion of the role of the department.

Getting here

Car parking is free but there is a four hour maximum stay in operation Monday to Friday (7:30am - 4:00pm). There are 2 multi-storey car parks for patients and visitors.

Facilities available on the QE campus

In the atrium of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital main building there is a WH Smith, Marks and Spencer's Simply Food, Souped Up and Juiced, and two cash machines. There is also a Travel Office for advice on public transport to the hospital. On the first floor there is a restaurant and coffee shop, which is open to staff, visitors and patients.

There are vending machines available within WestMARC outpatient waiting area.
