GlobalProtect Remote Access, previously known as Swan, is a facility that allows you to use your own personal computer (Mac or Windows) to access NHSG clinical systems including TrakCare, Opera, BadgerNet, Dragon, Intranet, PACS and ICCA, from home.

To apply, go to the IT Service Desk Portal on the Intranet. Click on Request Something, then scroll down until you see PRISMA GlobalProtect - Remote Access, and click on that. You need to add a line manager email address for approval; anaesthetists in training should use Calum McDonald (calum.mcdonald2@nhs.scot), everyone else should use Karan Taylor (karan.taylor@nhs.scot). Check the names are spelled correctly so you get the right one.

Your computer will need to have antivirus and firewall software installed and the application checks for this every time you login. If you don't have any, or your existing one doesn't pass the check, you can download a free version of Sophos Antivirus Commercial Edition using the instructions below.

Use your @nhs.scot email address to verify your eligibility and receive your unique code. Your personal email address is to be used later for registration. During registration, please ensure the accuracy of your personal email as codes are single-use.

Follow a few simple steps to register for and download the product.

Secure Web Access uses Microsoft Windows App to connect to NHSG servers. This is part of the Windows operating system, but if you use a Mac you will need to download it from the App Store. Windows App does not work on Apple or Android tablets.

Watch out for the email confirming access to remote access as you only have a few days to respond to the link in the email in order to download a registry file.

Access from Windows 10 devices will cease after October 2025 when support from Microsoft ends.
