Managing my COPD toolkit information

The purpose and audience of this toolkit

This toolkit has been developed as an information resource for people living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in the community. It aims to increase their understanding about COPD and symptom control, and help them to manage their condition.

It incorporates information from trusted sources including third party organisations (such as health charities) and the NHS.

This toolkit has been developed for people with COPD as an educational resource. It is not intended to be a replacement for routine or emergency clinical care.

Content management and governance

Authorship

The content in this toolkit has been developed by the clinical leads or nominated team members throughout the multidisciplinary team of the NHSGGC COPD Support Service.

Appropriateness, relevance and update of the content remains with the core NHSGGC COPD Support Service clinical team.

Review and approval

Content for this toolkit has been compiled from trusted sources including the original NHS Scotland COPD support service web resources, NHS GGC pulmonary rehabilitation educational information, NHS inform, and third party organisations such as Chest Heart Stroke Scotland, Asthma+Lung UK, and My Lungs My Life.

The content in this toolkit has been approved by the clinical leads or nominated team members throughout the multidisciplinary team of the NHSGGC COPD Support service. The conceptualisation of this patient facing information was supported by the eHealth Doccla COPD working group, with clinical governance approval from the NHSGGC Interface division.

Final content was signed off by NHSGGC COPD Support Service clinical lead Professor Chris Carlin. 

The content will be reviewed on an annual basis and considered for substantial update 3 years from publication. Any minor updates brought to the developers attentions will be dealt with on an "as needed" basis.

Content updates on the Right Decisions platform with be carried out by the NHSGGC COPD Support Service team, with support from the Right Decisions Service team when required.

The wording and format featured within this toolkit are the original work of the NHSGGC COPD Support Service unless specifically stated. 

There are multiple links to external sites. Copyright and responsibilities of the content remains with those sites.

There are a number of educational videos included within this toolkit. They are all publicly available via the NHSGGC YouTube channel and developed by the NHSGGC respiratory physiotherapy service, the NHSGGC pulmonary rehabilitation service, and the NHSGGC Community Respiratory Service. Authorship of these videos has been acknowledged in the corresponding toolkit section. The content of these videos has been deemed appropriate to be included within this toolkit by members of the multidisciplinary team for the COPD digital support service. These videos are hosted on this toolkit via the Vimeo platform for display purposes.
