Stopping smoking
If you smoke, stopping smoking is the best way to stop your COPD from getting worse and can also help you live longer.
Stopping smoking should also improve your symptoms and reduced the chances of you having a flare-up or exacerbation of your COPD.
It can be hard to stop smoking but there is lots of help available to support you. You are more likely to succeed if you get specialist support and therapies from an NHS Stop Smoking Service. All NHS Stop Smoking Services are free.
