Flare ups or exacerbations of COPD can be caused by respiratory viruses. Being up to date with vaccinations helps reduce the chance you will become seriously unwell with these infections. Vaccinations are proven to reduce the risk of exacerbations in COPD.
Vaccinations
Vaccinations are one of the most effective ways to protect yourself from serious illness, reduce your risk of coming into hospital, and help keep those around you safe.
The Influenza or Flu vaccine – given every year in the autumn and winter
The Pneumococcal vaccine – given either as a one-off single dose or one dose every 5 years, depending on underlying health conditions
The COVID-19 vaccine - given every year, usually alongside the flu vaccine
