- Open Trakcare live and log in
- Click on ‘Ward Attenders’ tab and highlight woman’s name from list
- Select ‘New Request’. Under responsible clinician, type your relevant area (either EPAS or Triage or DCU) and select your unit from the list (eg PRM Midwife triage, RAH Midwife EPAS)

- Tick ‘Collecting specimen now’ and select the relevant investigations
- Click update and complete all required information. Forms will be printed to be sent with specimen
- All lab investigations should be documented on Badgernet under either Blood tests or Microbiology tests.

- This process should be used when collecting all specimens within this area.
Lab investigation results, Maternity SOP

Objectives
To standardise the documentation and follow up of lab investigations within Triage, DCU and EPAS.
- Open Trakcare live and log in
- Select ‘Results unsigned’ from the tab bar and select ‘Results OP’

- On the first occasion of reviewing results you will be required to set your preferences. Select preferences in the bottom right hand corner.
- In the results preferences page select your reviewing area (e.g PRM Midwife EPAS, QUEH Midwife Triage) under the ‘Responsible Clinician’ field and select ‘Update’.

- To review the outstanding investigation results, ensure the relevant date range is selected and a list of women should appear.
- Select ‘Results’. The investigation results will open for review.
- All abnormal results must be printed for review. Results can be printed by right clicking the mouse and selecting ‘print’ or press ‘Ctrl’ and ‘P’ at the same time and print.
- Complete the relevant action from the drop down menu under ‘Action taken’. In the free text box complete any information relevant to the review. E.g. referred to medical staff.
- Select ‘Mark as sign off’ box and click ‘Update all’
- In triage all abnormal results should be filed in the results folder for FOC review. At the beginning of each shift, medical staff should check the FOC folder for any outstanding result reviews.
- Once reviewed medical staff must write the relevant action completed and sign. Medical staff must ensure any woman requiring treatment are contacted and treatment prescribed. Any required communication re results such as GBS positive must be either completed by medical staff or handed over to midwifery staff to complete communication.
- In EPAS all HCGs relating to a completed USS should be printed and be discussed with the on shift sonographer for management plan. Any abnormal results should be escalated to the on call gynaecologist.
