Warning

This section covers what needs to be considered to ensure that processes and changes are embedded and sustained through the development of positive relationships across services and a strong, skilled workforce.

Consider the below:

  • Can you define the mental health and substance use workforce? Including outlining the level of skills and knowledge expected across roles and services.
  • Within your workforce development plan have you made explicit reference to third sector staff as part of the workforce?
  • Are all mental health and substance use staff trained on assessing and managing co-occurring conditions?
  • What input exists across specialisms within your workforce development training plans? For example:
    • Ongoing support and supervision
    • Coaching
    • Reflective practice
    • Peer support
    • Co-occurring conditions networks
  • How could you incorporate staff relationship building approaches into business-as-usual activities?
  • Is there commitment to providing more integrated mental health and substance use care?
Find out more about Enabling better care. You will find detailed examples of the above and how this could look in practice.
