Introduction

Everyone has the right to live a life free from harm, to be cared for and protected from harm if needed and live in a safe environment in which their rights and needs are respected. NHS Ayrshire & Arran (NHS A&A) is committed to protecting, promoting and supporting the wellbeing of children, young people, unborn babies and adults at risk of harm.

Public Protection is an umbrella term used when referring to several protection agendas. For the purposes of this toolkit Public Protection refers to Child Protection (CP) and Adult Support and Protection (ASP).

This toolkit has been designed to guide independent contractors and their teams to identify the measures needed for safe and effective public protection practice.

By being fully engaged in key Public Protection processes independent contractors can support children and adults at risk of harm to receive trauma informed and person centered support and protection.
