Purpose and scope of the framework

This Public Protection toolkit is relevant for all independent contractors delivering NHS services in Ayrshire and Arran. The toolkit aims to support independent contractors and their teams to be appropriately informed of national and local public protection practice and have the knowledge and skills to recognise and respond when a child, young person, unborn baby or adult may be at risk of harm and to take appropriate action.

The aim is to:

• Clarify roles and responsibilities.
• Outline local Public Protection pathways and processes to be followed in case of
  concern.
• Outline what resources are available including training information.
• Promote collaborative multi-agency practice and in so doing support multi-agency
  assessment and management of identified need or risk.
• Contribute to trauma-informed, person centered, best practice.
