Foreign body in Nose
Warning
- if the patient is co-operative an attempt should be made to remove the foreign body but if the child becomes distressed without a realistic chance of imminent removal then you should stop
- you can try a ‘parent’s kiss’ – this involves the child’s parent occluding the other nostril and then blowing firmly into the child’s mouth. This will hopefully either force the foreign body out or make it more accessible
- if the patient is uncooperative, or you are not successful, refer to ENT – ENT@borders.scot.nhs.uk or book into Thursday morning 0900 – 1000 ENT ED clinic
- parents can be reassured that the chance of aspiration is extremely low
