As of Tuesday 23rd December 2025, in order to maintain business continuity during a period of reduced staffing and to streamline our workflows, it has been necessary to temporarily close the Consultant Microbiologist e-mail inbox (dg.microbiologycons@nhs.scot). Please do not send e-mail requests for clinical advice.
Consultant Microbiologist advice is available by telephone ONLY.
In addition, a polite reminder that all advice requests should be placed by the most senior clinician in charge of patient care (e.g. Consultant, GP, SAS doctor). We can no longer accept requests from other staff groups e.g. junior clinicians, nurses, allied health professionals and admin staff.
The Clinical Consultant Microbiology service hours are:
• Monday to Friday 0900-1700: Ext 33294
• Saturday and Sunday 0900-1200: via switchboard ONLY
• Bank Holidays 0900-1700: via switchboard ONLY
