World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week (WAAW) event recording uploaded to NHS D&G Microbiology and IPC Presentation Archive. 

30/10/2025: 11/09/2025: Hospital (adult) antimicrobial guidance
The latest version (8.2) of antimicrobial prescribing guidance for hospital (adults) has been uploaded. This includes the full empirical guidance and poster. 

22/10/2025: Penicillin Allergy De-labelling guidance and resources
GP practice resources and a new section containing resources for patients has been added. Guidance has been updated to the latest version 1.1.

14/10/25: SAPG:Infection-specific guidance
Section updated. New guidance available for Adult C. difficile infection, in addition to neutropenic sepsis/fever in adults.

06/10/25: Additional resources: out of hours.
New section that includes resources for clinicians out of hours and/or when a microbiologist is not immediately available.

06/10/2025: Changes to Clinical Consultant Microbiology Service

As of Monday 6th October, all advice requests should be made by the most senior clinician in charge of patient care (e.g. Consultant, GP, SAS doctor). We regret that we can no longer accept requests for advice from other staff groups e.g. junior clinicians, nurses, allied health professionals and admin staff.
The new Clinical Consultant Microbiology service hours are:
Monday-Friday 9am-5pm: Ext 33294 or e-mail (dg.microbiologycons@nhs.scot)
Saturday and Sunday 9am-12noon:Via switchboard ONLY

11/09/2025: Penicillin Allergy De-labelling project guidance and resources
These resources are to support clinicians undertaking penicillin allergy de-labelling and can be found from the handbooks main page > Additional resources > General antimicrobial prescribing. 

16/07/2025: KidzMed resources added to Primary Care section
KidzMed is a programme developed to help parents/carers teach children to swallow pills. Resources can be found under Primary Care>User guide>Additional primary care resources.

Bug fixes have been implemented. The sections are now displayed in the correct order on the App, and within website links are now working correctly. Red crosses are also now displaying correctly . SAPG resource is no longer in use, links have been removed and replaced with links to CKS/NICE (in line with SAPG website)

02/05/2025: Educational Resources
Presentations delivered at FY1 teaching on Staphylococcus aureus (including bacteraemia) and Blood Culture Contamination has been added to the presentation archive.

24/03/2025: Primary Care formulary - functional update
Functional (i.e. non-content) update, including fixing links and formatting. Red crosses are currently not showing on the App, and the section on the app remain out of order. We are awaiting a response from RDS / Tactuum to resolve these issues. Please report any broken links / issues / feedback / comments to: dg.antimicrobialstewardship@nhs.scot.

20/03/2025: Primary Care: Skin and Soft Tissue - Fungal infections
Fungal infections section updated, as the NHS D&G Microbiology Laboratory has currently suspended fungal microscopy/culture on nail, hair and skin samples. It is now advised for clinically suspected fungal nail infections that oral antifungal treatment, when indicated, should be commenced without laboratory confirmation of the diagnosis.

10/01/2025: MPOX/HCID Links
Collection of links to HCID/mpox guidance, educational material and policies published.

Rate of administration amended.

08/07/2024: Gentamicin and Vancomycin calculators moved
Calculators have been moved to a more appropriate location within this "Hospital: Adults" section.

21/06/2024: NHS D&G HPT pertussis Comms v3
NHS D&G HPT pertussis Comms updated to v3. National updates to treatment durations / options.

10/06/2024: NHS D&G HPT pertussis Comms
Created new section for Outbreak/Antibiotic Alerts & Memos. NHS D&G HPT pertussis Comms added.

Added additional safety information to Paediatric:Hospital section.

02/05/2024: Vancomycin and Gentamicin Calculators
The new national Vancomycin and Gentamicin calculators (adult) developed by SAPG have been released and incorporated into the NHS DG Antimicrobial Handbook.

18/03/2024: NHS Dumfries and Galloway Antimicrobial Handbook
