Taxi procedure for St. Andrew's students

St. Andrew's students

Student Services have an account with Williamson’s Taxis and will arrange for taxi journeys in the following circumstances:

  • Member of staff needs a taxi for business travel. This does not include journeys where a member of staff is accompanying a student to e.g. hospital. Where a member of staff accompanies a student, this should be treated as per category D below i.e. an ‘emergency’.
  • A student is known to the Disability Team as having a ‘permanent’ mobility issue where the provision of taxis to and from classes would be appropriate.
  • A student (e.g. post surgery) will require taxis to and from classes for a number of weeks and the cost to the student would cause them financial difficulties.
  • It’s an ‘emergency’ and a taxi is needed immediately. This could happen during office hours (e.g. a student becomes unwell or distressed during an appointment with an adviser) or out of office hours (e.g. a student becomes unwell at the halls of residence and needs medical attention). If we receive a call from a hospital e.g. Ninewells saying that a student is being discharged, the call should be put through to a member of the Management Team.
  • It is not guaranteed that Student Services will pay for ‘emergency’ taxis as it will depend on why the taxi was required, the cost of the journey and whether the student is deemed able to pay the cost themselves.

Member of staff needs a taxi for business travel

  1. Call Williamson’s Taxis on 01334 476787 and say that the journey should be added to Student Services (Dawn’s account).
  2. Email moneyadvice@st-andrews.ac.uk with the name of the member of staff, taxi pick-up address and where the taxi was going.

Student has a ‘permanent’ disability

Taxis are arranged by Disability Admin who let the Money Team know that payment for taxis will be met by the disability budget.

When a taxi will be needed on a regular basis for a number of weeks

Email moneyadvice@st-andrews.ac.uk with information below:

  • Name of the student
  • Student ID
  • Why the taxi will be needed on a regular basis, and
  • How long you anticipate the student will require the use of taxis.

When a taxi needs to be ordered immediately for a student

  • If the request is coming from an external source e.g. a hospital, the call should be put through to either a member of the Management Team or the Wardennial Team, who will determine whether a taxi is appropriate.
  • If it is during office hours, let the Money Team know that a taxi is required. The Money Team will then call Williamson’s Taxis on 01334 476787.
  • If it is out of hours, follow the Wardennial Team procedure i.e. unless the student is very ill/distressed, ask them if they can pay for the taxi themselves. If they say they can’t and a taxi is ordered through Williamson’s using the Student Services account, email moneyadvice@st-andrews.ac.uk with:
    • name of the student,
    • student ID,
    • taxi pick-up address,
    • where the taxi was going
    • why it was needed.
