Student Services have an account with Williamson’s Taxis and will arrange for taxi journeys in the following circumstances:
- Member of staff needs a taxi for business travel. This does not include journeys where a member of staff is accompanying a student to e.g. hospital. Where a member of staff accompanies a student, this should be treated as per category D below i.e. an ‘emergency’.
- A student is known to the Disability Team as having a ‘permanent’ mobility issue where the provision of taxis to and from classes would be appropriate.
- A student (e.g. post surgery) will require taxis to and from classes for a number of weeks and the cost to the student would cause them financial difficulties.
- It’s an ‘emergency’ and a taxi is needed immediately. This could happen during office hours (e.g. a student becomes unwell or distressed during an appointment with an adviser) or out of office hours (e.g. a student becomes unwell at the halls of residence and needs medical attention). If we receive a call from a hospital e.g. Ninewells saying that a student is being discharged, the call should be put through to a member of the Management Team.
- It is not guaranteed that Student Services will pay for ‘emergency’ taxis as it will depend on why the taxi was required, the cost of the journey and whether the student is deemed able to pay the cost themselves.
