Who to refer

  • Any child or young person under the age of 18 years and/or still at school with a concern regarding:
    • Musculoskeletal conditions (for example knee pain, ankle instability, lower back pain)
    • Rheumatological conditions (such as juvenile idiopathic arthritis)
    • Respiratory conditions (such as cystic fibrosis)
    • Neurological conditions (such as cerebral palsy).

Who not to refer

  • Anyone over the age of 18
  • Hypermobility unless presenting feature is pain.

How to refer

  • Referrals can be made by parents via our Advice Line, please see our details below:
    • Open: Tuesdays 9:30am–11:30am and Thursdays 4:00pm–6:00pm
    • Telephone Number: 01382 740317
  • GP Referrals can be made by SCI Gateway/Paediatric physiotherapy. Self referral is preferred.
  • Referrals can also be made by completing our referral form which can be found via our website.

 

Speciality description

Children and Young People’s Physiotherapists have an understanding of child development, childhood diseases and conditions and physical activities for all ages and abilities. We work in partnership with children and young people and their families to maximise their abilities and provide universal and targeted information and advice to the general public and particular groups as well as specialist input to individual children and young people.
