Who to refer

In general, patients with Bell’s palsy are not seen in Neurology, the exceptions to this are:

  • Bilateral facial weakness
  • Recurrent Bell’s palsy
  • Continued progression of weakness beyond 3 weeks
  • Other associated neurology (out with acceptable mild sensory symptoms).

How to refer

  • SciGateway/ Neurology
  • Please send Lyme serology in those with progressive or bilateral facial weakness.
