Who to refer

Patient to refer to Neurology:

  • Please refer any patients in whom MND is suspected
    • Clinical features raising likelihood of MND include:
      • progressive dysphagia when associated with dysarthria
      • progressive limb weakness
      • an absence of sensory symptoms/signs.
  • Prior to referral, please send a CK level (to differentiate those with muscle disease mimics).

How to refer

  • Patients with a new suspected diagnosis of MND should be referred urgently via Sci Gateway/Neurology.
  • Patients with known MND, if the issue relates specifically to the patient’s MND, please contact the MND nurse specialist in the 1st instance (details below):
