Post Concussion Syndrome

Warning

Who to refer

  • In general, patients do not need to be referred to Neurology with post-concussion syndrome
  • The exception to this is patients with resultant chronic migraine unresponsive to trials of at least 3 prophylactic agents and where analgesia overuse has been addressed. (please see migraine RefGuide)
  • For all other symptoms (e.g. memory, dizziness etc) please refer to RefGuide dizziness and RefGuide memory symptoms
  • For those with predominant cognitive symptoms, please see memory symptoms.

How to refer

Please refer routinely via SCI Gateway as per usual headache guidance.

 

  • Post concussion syndrome is a constellation of symptoms that can occur after minor head injuries
  • Patients can present with a number of symptoms including memory and mood changes, dizziness, fatigue and headache.
