New Abnormal Gait

A new abnormal gait may be due to a neuromuscular problem or a skeletal problem.
Children’s Physiotherapy may help to assess.
For any child with a gait abnormality, the hips should be examined and a pelvic x-ray should be arranged prior to referral.
Where Slipped Upper Femoral Epiphysis is suspected, emergency referral to Orthopaedics on call is required. Late presenting DDH should be urgently referred to our Children’s Orthopaedic Service.
