Promoting Realistic medicine and health literacy through public libraries
The Right Decision Service is partnering with eight public library services across Scotland to support citizens as active participants in Realistic Medicine. RDS is co‑creating a practical toolkit on Realistic Medicine, helping libraries engage local people in informed, person‑centred decision‑making.
Recent progress includes:
- The creation of a template for local Realistic Medicine implementation plans, enabling library services to begin shaping their own objectives for empowering citizens.
- New marketing materials for public libraries promoting Being a Partner in My Care and Manage My Meds have been released on the RDS platform, giving services ready‑to‑use resources to raise awareness of these tools with their communities.
A new learning module, Public libraries in Realistic Medicine, has been developed for the national Realistic Medicine toolkit. Designed for healthcare professionals, the module explains how public libraries act as trusted local assets and highlights the ways they support shared decision‑making, health literacy, digital inclusion, and self‑management
