Signs & symptoms

  • Change to skin colour
  • Tracking proximally
  • Rise in temperature
  • Swelling and pain
  • Break in skin/open wound
  • Odour.

Risk factors

  • History of ulceration
  • Peripheral vascular disease
  • Diabetes/peripheral neuropathy
  • Prominent structural deformity.

When & how to refer

Urgent Podiatry or Diabetes MDT referral.
