Assessment

Signs & symptoms

  • Bone pain/ pain around joint
  • Constant or more severity at night
  • Swelling/ mass/ deformity
  • Stiffness in the joint
  • Fatigue

Risk factors

  • History of childhood cancer
  • Teens more commonly affected
  • Over 60s increased incidence (osteosarcoma)
  • Adults above 40 (chondrosarcoma)
  • Common site-proximal tibia/ distal femur.

When & how to refer

Refer urgently to Orthopaedics/ local sarcoma service.
