Assessment

Signs & symptoms

Onset before age 45yrs, lasted longer than 3 months and 4 or more of the following features:

  • Onset before age 35yrs.
  • Wakes second half of night.
  • Buttock pain.
  • Spinal pain that improves with movement/activity.
  • Morning stiffness lasting >30 minutes.
  • Improvement within 48hrs of taking NSAIDs.
  • First degree relative with spondyloarthritis.
  • Current or past arthritis.
  • Current or past enthesitis.
  • Current or past psoriasis.
  • History of uveitis, dactylitis, inflammatory bowel disease.

Risk factors

  • Recent infection (bowel/genito-urinary)
  • Family history of inflammatory conditions.
  • Caucasion > Afro Caribbean/Asian.

When & how to refer

Bloods are per primary care protocol and refer to local Rheumatology service.
