REACT H&H are able to support the provision of short term oxygen therapy (STOT) via a portable oxygen concentrator. The maximum flow rate that can be administered is 2 litre/minute and this is delivered via a nasal canulae, patients are unable to ambulate with this oxygen.
REACT short term oxygen therapy
Hospital@Home can support early discharges from hospital for appropriate patients requiring short-term, low-flow oxygen up to 2 litres/min. Please find attached our updated criteria, and information that you need to have when making a referral (also in drop down boxes). Please ring the H@H coordinator on extension 53173, or mobile 07811710633, to discuss any referrals.
When referring to REACT H&H for the provision of short term oxygen therapy, please consider:
- patient’s safety when using oxygen
- their ability to follow their given prescription
- their ability to operate the equipment that will be placed in their home
- Patient smoking status, including vaping
- ideally should have been abstinent for a minimum of 3 months*
- for advice on individual patient’s please discuss with Dr R Dickinson or Dr K McLaren
- Diagnosis:
- Reason for referral
- Confirm symptomatic reversible hypoxia (on medical treatment and improving)
- Anticipated duration of STOT
- Target Sp02
- Current 02 flow rate/Sp02
- Confirmation that patient is not at risk of CO2 retention
- Home circumstances
- Who will provide access for installation of STOT (provide name/contact number)
- Confirm no smokers in the house
