As of November 2023, the preferred therapeutic option for suspected DVT who are being ambulated to SDEC for doppler USS is apixaban. This also applies for suspected PE who are being discharged for ambulatory CTPA.
The inclusion/exclusion criteria for apixaban is on the second page of the guideline in the 'Can patient be treated with Apixaban' box. There is no benefit in stopping antiplatelets for this short a period. If apixaban is not suitable, dalteparin can be considered.
At SJH ED the Apixaban TTO boxes will be 5mg tablets with 14 tablets in the box. They are labelled appropriately with '2 tablets twice daily'. This means that the pack will only last for 3 ½ days but this should be easily enough, even over the weekend.
