Indications:
Proven renal / ureteric colic
Notes:
The urology team frequently recommend tamsulosin for renal / ureteric colic. Ureters contain alpha receptors which mediate contraction of smooth muscle. Alpha-blockers increase stone passage by up to a third, decrease the time to passage of (smaller) stones by 48 to 72 hours and reduce colic associated with passage of stones.
