Nasal fracture algorithm

Nasal fractures are usually uncomplicated and normally diagnosed clinically, without imaging.

The main issue to address in the ED is to control epistaxis (usually achieved pre-hospital) and any wound closure.

If nasal fracture is suspected then the Nasal Fracture (Broken Nose) V1.0 advice leaflet provided to the patient to follow in order to decide if and how to organise follow-up.

Should a patient represent to ED with a complication of nasal bone fractures they should be seen directly by the ENT team, ideally in 19A assessment area.
