2024-04-26: update with short note that apixaban can be used in ambulation
See the suspected pulmonary embolism (PE) protocol.
Do note that there is a separate PE protocol for adolescents (13-16yo).
If a patient has a suspected PE and cannot be scanned the same day, they can be ambulated as per the criteria on the protocol. Please note there are 2 ambulatory pathways: the SDEC pathway as described on the protocol, and a separate SJH ED ambulatory CTPA pathway. Preferentially at SJH ED we should use the reserved ED slots, but pragmatically choose the best pathway for the patient.
Do note that suspected PE can be treated with apixaban if suitable
