"Frequent attenders" is a blanket term for patients who repeatedly attend the ED. If this is within a short period of time, it may that there are unresolved issues from an initial presentation - these cases should always be discussed, and potentially reviewed, by a senior decision maker.

If this is over a longer period of time, there may be other issues (e.g. social) which are resulting into ED attendance. It may be that their issues are not something that can be solved by an ED attendance.

Some of the "frequent attenders" may have a yellow triangle alert on TRAK. Do always read these before seeing a patient. These may contain care plans for the patient, to help with their management in the ED.

If you see a patient that you feel may benefit from a care plan, please email Dr Michele Open.
