Whole body CT in trauma

Our whole body CT guidance in trauma has been led by our colleagues at RIE EM and RIE Major Trauma, in collaboration with NHSL radiology.
There is more clinical judgment in the May 2025 revision of the guidelines compared to our previous protocol. The key update is the distinction between high and low energy mechanisms of injury.
While a WBCT may still be appropriate in frail patients following a fall from standing, the guidance encourages clinical judgement to assess whether selective CT imaging may be more suitable.
