Warning

It is normal for people to experience elevated levels of stress and distress and worry having sustained a spinal cord injury. It may be helpful to read over the clinical psychology section of the Your Inpatient Journey section in this app which sets out the process of adjustment and normal reactions to spinal cord injury.

For some, their difficulties will go beyond the normal processes of grief and loss which are often encountered following spinal injury. In such instances, it may be helpful to learn a little more about what has brought about psychological distress, what factors are maintaining your difficulties, and what you can do to manage your emotions. It is often the role of clinical psychologists to help people come to an understanding of their difficulties and how best to manage their emotions. For some, it may also be helpful to learn a little more about their emotional wellbeing and some of the things they can do to help themselves.

Below are links to range of videos, handouts, and guides which cover the various emotional difficulties which can present in those with spinal cord injury. Within these links, there is useful information about managing low mood and anxiety, dealing with loss, managing poor sleep, and many other helpful topics.
