Warning

Horatio’s Garden nurtures the wellbeing of people after spinal injury in beautiful, vibrant sanctuaries within the heart of NHS spinal injury centres.

The gardens and garden rooms are here for the use of patients and their visitors. Leading designer, James Alexander-Sinclair created the accessible gardens and they are cared for by Horatio’s Garden staff and volunteers. Please ask if you would like a tour, have any questions, or need assistance.

In the courtyard, opposite the dayroom, you’ll find an accessible garden with year-round interest, water feature, two private heated garden rooms, and a larger social garden room with complimentary hot drinks and a kitchen.

You’ll find a second beautiful heated garden room with kitchen refreshments, just off the step-down room located at the end of the Phillipshill Ward and down the ramp. This is where many of our activities are held.

Horatio’s Garden has weekly arts, music and garden activities that are for patients and their visitors to enjoy. These are drop-in sessions, and the schedule of upcoming events can be found in the display board at the courtyard garden entrance, and there is a weekly What’s On flier on display in each of the garden rooms. Please come along - no skills or experience required for any of our sessions, and you can come just for a chat and a cuppa!

If you’d like a garden visit or assistance to use the garden areas or attend activities, please ask Horatio’s Garden staff or volunteers in person (look for green or purple polo shirts!), or email the Head Gardener, or Garden Administrator (see info below).

In the garden you’re welcome to get growing with us. We offer one on one garden therapy sessions as well as group workshops, and also encourage you to grow your own in the heated greenhouse and accessible raised beds. You can let the OTs know you’re interested and they can arrange a visit with the Head Gardener Chelsea, or contact Chelsea directly via email to note interest.

If you have any ideas, suggestions or comments please get in touch.
