Warning

The Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) team at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital are experts in the assessment, diagnosis and management of complex swallowing and communication impairments.

We provide high quality, specialised services to spinal cord injury patients, from acute admissions and throughout rehabilitation as required.

We will work with you and your family if you are experiencing any difficulties eating, drinking, swallowing and/or communicating. These difficulties may be as a result of your injury and/or having a tracheostomy or being on a ventilator. We work within the multi-disciplinary team with regard to tracheostomy weaning programmes.

We will assess your swallow function and create tailored rehabilitation programmes with the aim of restoring safe eating and drinking where possible.

We will assess your communication (motor speech, language and/or voice) and provide therapeutic input as appropriate.
