Community Paediatrician

Community Paediatricians are children and young people's doctors who specialise in childhood neuro-developmental disorders, childhood disability and complex medical conditions.  The role of the Paediatric is to find out about your child's medical needs and whether there are any tests or treatments the child might need.

Occupational Therapists

Children's Occupational Therapist's assess and advise children and families on how they can participate in daily activities to enable them to become as independent as possible. This includes general self-care, school, work and play/ leisure (dependent on the age of the child or young person). We may also investigate sensory processing difficulties.

Educational Psychologist

Educational Psychologists assess children and young people to understand the links between their early experiences, how they think, feel, learn and behave and how this may affect their health, wellbeing and development. Their main role is to observe and assess how children and people learn, and provide support and strategies to school to improve children's experiences of learning.

Speech and Language Therapist

Speech and Language Therapists work with children to identify why your child may have speech, language or communication difficulties in different settings.
We identify and facilitate implementation of support that can be provided at home, school and in the community, to enable individuals to communicate, build relationships, understand, engage and participate to their full potential.

Psychiatrist

Psychiatrists work with children and young people to work out and understand their neurodevelopmental, emotional, behavioural and mental health needs. They work together to understand these. Sometimes they can prescribe medication to help too.

Health Visitors

Although health visitors are not directly involved in the formal assessment, they are often the first to identify that the child has a communication and or a behaviour and development delay.
The Health Visitor will make the initial referrals to Speech and Language.  The Community Paediatrician and any other service which she and the child's parents feel necessary.
The Health Visitor will support the family through the diagnosis process and participate in any meetings relating to the child's future care planning.
