  • X-ray findings may not fit with subjective and objective findings

Risk factors

  • Trauma
  • Prolonged steroid use
  • Excess alcohol consumption/ binge drinkers
  • HIV
  • Past radiation/ chemotherapy
  • Sickle cell anaemia
  • Commercial/ military divers.

When & how to refer

Refer urgently/ routinely to Orthopaedics depending on severity.
